From Bombay to a District across India
Follow three turning points in the history recorded by the District.
1838 · The western Province
The Provincial Grand Lodge of Western India took shape in Bombay under Bro. Dr. James Burnes. The formation of that Province marks the beginning of the Scottish District’s institutional history in India.
1962 · Two Districts
The Scottish Lodges of Western and Eastern India were organised into separate Districts. Their consecrations took place in Bombay in March and in Calcutta in July. The names Bombay and Calcutta appear here as they do in the historical record.
1992 · A single District
In November the eastern and western bodies came together as the District Grand Lodge of India. Bro. Dhunjishaw D. Karkaria became the first District Grand Master of the new District.
