What is Scottish Freemasonry?
Start with the words you will meet on this site, from “Lodge” to “Scottish Constitution”.
A Lodge and its Brethren
A Lodge is a local body of Freemasons. Its members, often called Brethren, meet for the work of the Craft and for fellowship. Each Lodge on the Scottish roll has a name and a number. In the directory, for example, Lodge Madras in Chennai is No. 1342.
What “Scottish” means in India
A Lodge working under the Scottish Constitution holds its charter under the Grand Lodge of Scotland. Here in India these daughter Lodges are brought together by the District Grand Lodge of India, based at Freemasons’ Hall in Mumbai.
A first enquiry
Anyone may read this collection. If you are interested in learning more or meeting members of a Lodge near you, write to the District Secretariat with your city and your question. Brethren seeking access to the members’ area have a separate route.
